More on Guatemalan Adoptions

Perhaps you've heard some of the negative media blitz surrounding Gautemalan adoptions lately. Most recently, the fine fuc bastards at UNICEF went on NPR radio, something many people rely on for unbiased reporting, and came out and said that all you need to adopt a baby from Guatemala is $30K. Anyone familiar with the actual process knows that this is about as far from the truth as possible. Ten years from now, how do they expect me to explain this to my son? I read a very beautiful, heartfelt post by one of my fellow bloggers, and obtained her permission to post a link here. I encourage you to read Tara's post of this date entitled "I need to get a few things off my chest". She explains things much better than I can.

I'm cognizant that at some point, John, like many adoptee's, may suffer some identity crisis as a result of his adoption. I keep a file of clippings, articles, etc. of life in Guatemala in order to give him a better idea of why his birth mother made the choice for his that she did. I'll be adding Tara's post to John's file.

Please - do not donate to UNICEF this Halloween (or ever). If you want to donate to a worthy cause and help poor families, contact me and I can give you the names of reputable charities that help Guatemalan families.

THANKS FROM JOHN!!!
